A few weeks ago, I made the Catwoman video for the Lego Batman Movie contest on Rebrick.com. With this videos, I really tried to get the lighting to look good, and wanted to share what some of the setups looked like. This is the first scene, and the first time I tried using lighting gels. I was really happen with how it looked, especially when I decided to put a gel in front of the camera lens. The only problem with that tactic is that you have to make sure it is just right in order to make sure that there are no glares on non-flat portions of the gel. Here is the final scene. With these two shots, I used LifeLite LEDs for the refrigerator lighting. I really liked it, but it didn't come though as much as I was hoping in the final shot. They did prevent the fridge from being a dark whole though. The shots in the museum were fun to shoot, and the set was fun to build. I had the book there to cover up the gaps between the Lego bricks on that wall. The paper in front of the light and behind the gel is to help diffuse the light even further. I found that I needed this most of the time with the gels or else it would just be too strong of light. This is the setup for the shots of the diamond in the vault. Lifelites again for the lasers, but this time I introduced cinefoil. It funneled the light into a beam that only lit up the diamond. I have tried doing that effect before, but it would never work as well because I would try to use white paper and the light would just shine through. With this black foil, the light only escapes where the foil is covering up.
Thanks for reading, I hope you found it interesting.
